Nanny's Homemade Angel Biscuits(My great-grandmother's biscuits are fluffy and very yummy when served warm!)

Preparation Time: Approximately 2 hours
Number of Servings: Approximately 25 large or 32 small biscuits

Ingredients:

2 pkg. dry yeast
2 T. warm water
1 cup shortening
2 cups buttermilk
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. soda (scant)
5 cups flour
melted butter

Directions:  Dissolve yeast in warm water.  Mix shortening and buttermilk in large bowl.  Add yeast.  Sift dry ingredients together.  Stir dry ingredients in shortening mixture.  Knead well.  Roll out and cut.  Place on baking sheet.  Let rise for at least 1 hour.  Use pastry brush to spread butter on top of biscuits before baking.  Bake 425 degrees for 15 minutes.
