Crab a-la Madeira(Simple and traditional- very tasty and sociable meal.)

Ingredients:

1-1 1/2 large crabs per person- cleaned, cut into pieces to fit in large pot. Keep the shells on.
3 large onions, chopped
1/2 kg of fresh tomatoes, chopped
3 cloves of chopped garlic
1/2 kg of peeled and chopped potatoes
350ml of dry white wine
1 tsp of paprika
fresh chopped chillis to taste
salt to taste

Directions:  Heat a large heavy based pot, add oil. Add onion and garlic, fry for 2-3 min, Add tomato,paprika. Add 1l of water and potatoes. Cook until potatoes break up easily by by touch. Add crab, claws and cut pieces. Add wine and chillis. Cook for another 15 min. Serve with rice or chunky and chewy bread.
